Tips for Air Travel with Small Children

One of the best ways to travel on a family vacation is by air travel, but if you have little ones, it is made a whole lot easier when the proper preparations take place. If you are traveling with small children, it does not take long to find out that they do not like to sit quietly for very long. This can cause plane rides to be challenging and uncomfortable for you and the people around you. One of the best ways to stay sane on you air travel adventure is through careful preparation.

What you pack for your little ones, is essential so remember to pack enough entertainment. Fun entertainment will go a long way in keeping them occupied. Coloring books and stickers will keep them occupied for a time. It is best to purchase new toys because they tend to hold a child’s fascination. Take one toy out at a time, and when they lose interest, take out another toy. A portable DVD player with their favorite movie is that “last resort” item and works wonders in keeping the children pacified.

It is also good to have a carry on sack filled with enough necessities to keep the children comfortable. Bring Items like diapers, snacks, change of clothes, medication, wet wipes and other essentials that will make your air travel experience stress-free for everyone.

If you are traveling with very small children, it is also great to encourage sleep.  Air travel can provide the same soothing abilities as a relaxing car ride. Scheduling a naptime or nighttime flight can increase the chances that the child will be asleep during most of the flight.
